My Story: How a Difficult Chapter Led Me to Health Coaching

I get asked quite often how I ended up doing what I do, so I thought it was time to share the full story here on the blog.

For many years I worked in the fashion industry as print designer. It wasn't until I began struggling with my own health that my career took a different path.

When everything fell apart at once

A few years ago, I went through the most emotionally difficult and stressful time I've ever experienced. The combination of the ending of a long-term relationship, having to sell my home, and a job that no longer fulfilled me turned my world upside down. I was struggling to cope with it all and it wasn't long before my body started speaking up.

It began with quite severe digestive issues, and then, one by one, more symptoms followed. Fatigue that no amount of sleep could fix. Anxiety like I'd never experienced before. Mood swings. Irregular cycles. Brain fog that made even simple tasks feel hard. Skin rashes. Moments of dizziness that would come out of nowhere.

It was overwhelming, and honestly, quite frightening at times. I felt like my body was failing me.

Searching for answers

Like most people would, I went straight to my GP for help. I had various tests done, hoping for an explanation and something concrete I could point to and start fixing. But everything came back "normal".

I remember how confusing and disheartening that was. I knew, deep down, that these symptoms hadn't appeared out of nowhere. Something was going on, even if it couldn't be picked up on a standard test. So I made the decision to take my health into my own hands.

Finding a different path

That decision changed the course of my life. I threw myself into learning, reading everything I could find, working with different health practitioners and therapists, and slowly began experimenting with changes to my diet and lifestyle.

I won't pretend it was a straight line. There were plenty of setbacks along the way, weeks where I felt like I was getting nowhere, and moments where I wondered if I'd ever feel like myself again. But bit by bit, things started to shift. My digestion settled. My energy came back. The fog started to lift. I started to feel, slowly, like me again.

Somewhere in that process, something else happened too. What had started as a personal mission to heal myself grew into something bigger, a genuine passion for holistic health and a deep desire to help other people going through the same kind of struggle. That desire eventually led me to train as a Naturopathic Health Coach.

Why I take a holistic approach to health coaching

That experience shaped everything about how I work with clients today. I believe our health is about far more than just the food on our plate. How we feel in ourselves is an expression of our entire being, mind, body and spirit. Our mental load, our daily stresses, our past experiences and the way we move through the world all leave a mark on our physical health, whether we realise it or not.

That's why I take a whole-person, holistic approach with every person I work with. Not a rigid meal plan or a quick fix, but a gentle, thorough look at everything that's contributing to how you feel.

What I want you to take from this

If there's one thing I've learned through all of this, it's that our bodies have an incredible capacity to heal. They just need the right support.

Life doesn't always unfold the way we expect it to. Sometimes our darkest chapters end up leading us to our true purpose. I never would have chosen to go through what I went through, but I'm deeply grateful for where it's led me, and for the chance to now walk alongside others navigating similar struggles.

If any part of my story resonates with you, please know that you're not alone, and that healing is possible.
