What is a Health Coach?
If you've ever come across the term "health coach" and wondered what it actually means, you're not alone. It's a role that's become more popular in recent years, but there's still a lot of confusion around what we do, how we're different from a doctor, nutritionist or personal trainer, and who we can actually help.
So I thought I'd use this first blog post to clear things up, and share a bit about my own approach along the way.
What does a Health Coach actually do?
In today's busy world, staying healthy can feel like a full time job in itself. Between work, family and everything else on your plate, it's easy to end up overwhelmed, especially with so much conflicting advice out there about diet, exercise and mental health.
At its core, health coaching is about supporting you to make sustainable changes to your diet and lifestyle, and empowering you to make positive changes that lead to a happier and healthier life. Rather than handing you a rigid meal plan or a list of rules, a health coach works alongside you as a partner. We look at the full picture, your habits, your stress levels, your sleep, your relationship with food and movement, and we help you build small, realistic changes that actually stick.
It's less about willpower and more about understanding. Once you understand where your symptoms stem from, it becomes so much easier to make choices that support your body and overall health.
How is that different from a doctor or nutritionist?
I often get asked this question, so let's break it down simply.
A doctor diagnoses and treats illness. They're essential for identifying medical conditions, running tests and prescribing treatment when needed.
A nutritionist or dietitian focuses specifically on food and supplements, often creating structured plans around nutrient intake, sometimes for a particular condition.
A health coach sits alongside both of these, rather than replacing either. We don't diagnose or prescribe. Instead, our focus is on preventive, whole-person wellbeing, helping translate advice into everyday action and offering personalised support and accountability through the process of habit change, which is often the hardest part. Whether you're dealing with a specific health concern or simply want to improve your overall wellbeing, a health coach guides you towards achieving your goals.

What does working together actually look like?
Every coach works a little differently, but for me, the process usually follows a similar rhythm:
Getting the full picture. We start by talking through your health, your lifestyle and what's been going on for you, physically, mentally and emotionally, not just the symptom that brought you to me
Setting realistic goals. Together we decide what actually matters to you, whether that's more energy, a calmer nervous system or a happier gut, and we set goals that feel achievable rather than overwhelming
Space to reflect. I create room for you to think things through properly, often for the first time in a long time, so the changes we make genuinely fit your life
Building a plan. We put together simple, practical steps with a clear sense of what to do and when, and how to work around the obstacles that tend to get in the way
Ongoing support. Regular check-ins keep you on track, help us adjust as we go, and mean you're never figuring it out alone

My approach
I'm a Naturopathic Health Coach, which means my approach leans heavily on working with your body's natural ability to heal, rather than against it.
My approach is gentle by design. I don't believe in restrictive diets, punishing exercise regimes or adding more pressure to an already overwhelmed system. Instead, I look at diet, lifestyle and movement through a calming, restorative lens, helping your body feel safe enough to come back into balance.
Who I help
You might be a good fit for health coaching if you recognise any of these:
You're dealing with digestive issues, bloating or food intolerances that seem to have no clear cause
You feel tired but wired, exhausted but unable to properly switch off or sleep
Your energy dips throughout the day, no matter how much coffee you drink
Your cycle feels unpredictable, painful or just "off"
You're managing ongoing stress or anxiety and want a calmer, more sustainable way through it
You feel disconnected from your body and unsure where to even start
If any of that sounds familiar, please know there's nothing wrong with you, and you're certainly not alone. These are all signals, and once we understand what they're telling us, healing genuinely is possible.
